SPADI Clinical Utility

The Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) is unique because it weights pain and function equally. It is highly sensitive to changes in patients with adhesive capsulitis and rotator cuff disease.

Scoring Benchmarks

Scores are calculated by summing the total points in each subscale and dividing by the total possible points (50 for pain, 80 for disability), then multiplied by 100.

  • Low Disability (<30%): Mild impact on daily life.
  • Moderate Disability (30-60%): Significant functional impairment.
  • High Disability (>60%): Severe limitations; often correlates with surgical necessity.

Expert FAQs

Can the SPADI be used after surgery?

Yes. It is the preferred tool for monitoring progress 6-months post-op for total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA).
